SUMMER!

Summer is a great time to sew. Not only are the days longer and the mood more relaxed, but warmer temperatures allow for more flexibility in terms of location: we can sew on the back deck, at the cottage, in the RV, on the porch, at the park, poolside, pretty much wherever we like. And with all of the spectacular new fabrics and patterns that were just released at Spring Market, the temptation is to put everything else on hold and spend the entire season playing with fabrics and threads.

If that sounds good to you, our Summer Garden of Values will keep you supplied with raw materials, and our class schedule will give you lots of ideas for projects. After all, the QP classroom is another great summer sewing spot!

Hope to see you soon!

Leslie, Val and all the staff at Quilty Pleasures

ROBOT INVASION!

Imagine the fun you'll have "transforming" this robot fabric into a colourful quilt, a wall hanging, a laptop cover, a bag...!
THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN DROPPED!

The Million Pillowcase Challenge has become personal! Almonte's Quilting Quarters has challenged Quilty Pleasures to a pillowcase race, and we have accepted with a vengeance: we will produce more pillowcases than Quilting Quarters by the end of the year. They're ahead right now, but with your help, that situation is going to change.

Of course, we're offering an incentive (or bribe, if you prefer). For every pillowcase you hand in to us from now until December 31, your name will be entered in a draw for a $100 QP gift card!. You can use fabric from your stash (great way to make room for new stuff!) or you can purchase a fabric kit from us for $6.00. We can also give you an easy pattern with a great "hot dog" technique.

We have a pillowcase event scheduled for the afternoon of August 18, and we'll be scheduling more in the coming months. But, in the meantime, feel free to make as many pillowcases as you like. Each one will make someone at Ronald McDonald House very happy while it gives you another chance at winning a $100 gift card. And it will help Quilty Pleasures win the challenge from Quilting Quarters, putting us even closer to world domination!

So start your machines — the race is on!

SUMMER GARDEN OF VALUES

Each week during the summer, we'll be featuring a different colour in our "garden" of fabrics. Buy any fabric containing that colour, and get 25% off the regular price.

This is a great opportunity to fill in the holes in your stash – just come in every week and grow a garden of your own!
SHARON PEDERSON!

Sorry, this class is full!

Internationally-renowned author and teacher Sharon Pederson will be here with her "Machine Appliqué for the Terrified Quilter" workshop on Sunday, October 3, 2010. This all-day class is based on Sharon's book of the same name and is guaranteed to be full of fun and information. We've met Sharon, and can attest to her fun-loving nature – this is going to be a great workshop and will vanquish any fears you may have about machine appliqué.

Cost for the day, including a fabulous catered lunch, is only $125, plus tax. The class is now full, but we can keep your name on a waiting list in case any spaces open up.

EAST MEETS WEST HOLIDAY HOP!

The dates have been set: Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 are the days for the 2010 East Meets West Shop Hop! This annual Quilty Pleasures - Running Stitch event is always very popular, and this year we're adding a new twist by featuring our two favourite holidays, Halloween (QP) and Christmas (RS). We've got lots of great ideas, so mark the dates and stay tuned for further details.

BE OUR FRIEND!

We've finally gotten with the nineties and started a Facebook page! While we try to figure it out, Sam and Amy are holding our hands and leading us through the process – should be interesting. We'll also be twittering. This is totally new territory for us and we can use all the friends we can get, so please look us up and help us out.

JANOME HORIZON!

Marvin is not for sale, but the new Horizon by JANOME has been very PAW-pular! (Read more about the quilter's best friend on the Janome Machines page!) Our earlier launch party featured our Janome educator, Linda Pidzamecky providing a top-notch demonstration of the Horizon and all its wonderful features.

We had cake!
THREAD CLEARANCE!

Need fries, er, thread, with that? We're clearing out our entire stock of YLI and Sulky machine quilting threads. Buy 3 spools for $12.50 (that's the equivalent of half price!) or 35% off single spools. The reason? Starting in June, Quilty Pleasures will be the proud supplier of Superior Threads, which we have found to be, well, superior for machine quilting.

KIT OF THE WEEK!
During the entire summer, we're featuring a Kit of the Week which will be on sale for 20% its regular price. Quantities of each kit are limited, and we don't know which kit will be offered in any given week, so try to visit often for the best selection.

THREAD PLAY DAY!
Join us on Saturday, July 24 for a play day – with threads! Gail Robertson, from Superior Threads (they make King Tut, The Bottom Line, and many, many others) will be on hand to teach you all about threads, needles, and techniques, then she'll set you loose with a kit of threads that you can play with to your heart's content. Better than a day at the beach! Don't delay – the workshop is almost full!

COUNTRY BEGINNINGS SHOP HOP!
It's become a summer tradition! From August 18 through 21, take a mini-vacation as you visit eight (8!) area quilt shops. Join in the fun as you see what each shop has to offer, then get your passport stamped to enter for a chance at some excellent prizes. Pick up your passport at Quilty Pleasures or any of the participating shops, then gas up the van and gather your friends – this hop will be a holiday highlight!

PLEASE RETURN OUR BROOCH!

On or about Saturday, February 27, the jewelled butterfly brooch was stolen from our Circle Bag sample. While not made of real jewels, it is a vintage piece that does have sentimental value (it belonged to Val's mother) and we would like to have it back. If you know anything about this incident, or the whereabouts of the brooch, please let us know. If you have the brooch in your possession, we would appreciate its return – no questions asked. Thank you.

The summer schedule is ready, of course, with more great classes to tempt you.

PFAFF GRANDQUILTER 18.8

You may have noticed the enormous quilting frame and industrial quilting machine sitting in our basement. Let us take this opportunity to introduce you to the PFAFF GrandQuilter 18.8! It's huge, with a full 18" to the right of the needle and 8" of height in the throat area, and it has a built-in stitch regulator quilting those large quilts is now easier than ever! If you're interested in trying it out, we're making the machine available on an hourly rental basis. We also have a special class, Introduction to Longarm Quilting, that will demystify the whole process. Just talk to any staff member and we'll explain how this works.

Here's a sample of the quilting done by Joan and Elaine, our first guest quilters, on the 18.8. On the left you see a closeup of the front.
The back is on the right. They did a great job, and so can you!
